BERMOCOLL EBM 8000 is a non-ionic, water-soluble ethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose ether primarily used as a thickener, stabiliser, and rheology modifier in water-based latex paints and coatings.
It enhances water retention, improves consistency, and offers excellent enzyme resistance, ideal for high-viscosity applications.

Primary Uses and Applications
Latex Paints: Used as a thickener and stabilizer, particularly for achieving high storage viscosity and low application viscosity (0.2 – 0.7% dosage).
Coatings & Inks: Acts as a binder, dispersing agent, and rheology modifier to improve flow and workability.
Construction Materials: Used in mortars and plaster for water retention and improved workability.
Key Features and Benefits
Enhanced Enzyme Resistance: Protects paint formulations from degradation.
High Viscosity: Provides strong thickening power, with a 1% solution viscosity of 7,000–9,000 mPa.s.
Easy Dispersion: Readily disperses in cold, neutral, or slightly acidic water.
Stability: Improves colour acceptance and hiding power in coatings.

Primary Industrial Uses
Latex Paints: Its most common application is in water-based emulsion paints. It provides a specific rheological profile where high storage viscosity prevents settling, but low application viscosity allows for smooth brushing or spraying.
Building & Infrastructure: It is used in cement- and gypsum-based systems like joint compounds, putties, and distempers. It helps control water retention and workability, extending the “open time” for contractors to finish the surface.
Cosmetics & Personal Care: It acts as a thickening agent for the aqueous phase in products such as shampoos, body washes, shower gels, and crystal-clear gel formulations.
Key Performance Benefits
Enzyme Resistance: Unlike many natural thickeners, EBM 8000 is engineered to resist enzymatic degradation, which prevents the product from “thinning out” or losing viscosity over time while sitting on a shelf.
Water Retention: It prevents water from being absorbed too quickly by porous substrates (like concrete or drywall), ensuring the coating or mortar cures correctly.
Stability: It stabilises pigments and prevents flocculation (clumping) in paint formulations.
Usage Guidelines
To prevent lumping, it is recommended to add BERMOCOLL EBM 8000 to water with a pH of 7 or less, or mix it as a slurry with other powders.
