Nonylphenols-NP9
NP9 (Nonylphenol Ethoxylate 9) is a versatile nonionic surfactant used as an emulsifier, wetting agent, and dispersant in numerous industrial and household products, including heavy-duty detergents, degreasers, textiles, agrochemicals (pesticides), paints, paper processing, and oilfield chemicals, thanks to its ability to break down oils and grease and stabilize mixtures.
Key Uses by Industry:
Cleaning & Detergents: In liquid laundry detergents, industrial cleaners, and degreasers for machinery and surfaces.
Textiles & Leather: As a wetting agent for better dye penetration and even coloring, and in processing aids.
Agriculture (Agrochemicals): To emulsify pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides, improving their spread and adhesion on plants.
Paints & Coatings: Enhances dispersion and stability of pigments and resins.
Oil & Gas: Used in enhanced oil recovery and demulsification processes.
Paper & Pulp: Aids in de-inking and wetting applications.
Other: Also found in rubber, plastic, photography, and even some cosmetics.
Why it’s Used (Properties):
Emulsification: Suspends oil and water together, like in salad dressing.
Wetting: Reduces liquid surface tension for better spreading and penetration.
Dispersion: Keeps particles evenly spread in a liquid.
Detergency: Effectively lifts dirt, grease, and oil.
Important Note: While highly effective, Nonylphenol Ethoxylates (NPEs, including NP9) are toxic to aquatic life and are being phased out or replaced by safer alternatives in many regions due to environmental concerns.

Nonylphenols-NP9
Nonylphenols are a family of closely related organic compounds composed of phenol bearing a 9 carbon-tail.
Nonylphenols can come in numerous structures, all of which may be considered alkylphenols.
They are used in manufacturing antioxidants, lubricating oil additives, laundry and dish detergents, emulsifiers, and solubilizers
The NP-9 surfactant can be used as an emulsifier, wetting agent, dispersant, synthetic latex stabilizer and detergent in formulating cleaning products.
