N-Pentane CP 2.5L
N-Pentane is a highly volatile, non-polar hydrocarbon solvent and blowing agent.
The 2.5L CP (Chemically Pure) grade is utilised in laboratories and industrial manufacturing for organic extractions, petroleum testing, and polymer production.
Key Applications
Laboratory Solvents: Used in general laboratory procedures, extractions, and cleaning, particularly for extracting non-polar organic compounds from aqueous samples.
Foam Manufacturing: Functions as an inexpensive blowing agent to expand polystyrene and create polyurethane foams.
Aerosol Propellants: Blended into aerosol sprays due to its low boiling point and high volatility.
Petroleum Testing & Fuel: Used as a reference fluid for gas chromatography and as a component in gasoline blends.
Chemical Synthesis: Serves as an inert reaction medium and solvent in polymerisations and organic preparations.
Handling & SafetyHighly Flammable: Presents significant fire and vapour hazards. Store securely away from heat, sparks, or open flames.Health Risks: Inhalation can cause dizziness, headaches, and respiratory irritation. Always use it in a well-ventilated fume hood.
Environmental Impact: It is toxic to aquatic life and requires licensed disposal.
N-Pentane CP 2.5L
Pentane, a linear aliphatic hydrocarbon, is one of the main constituents of light straight-run (LSR) gasoline fraction in crude oils.
Its isomerization can improve the octane number of gasoline.
This has led to the development of a number of metal catalysts, which can effectively isomerize n-pentane to iso-pentane.
Pentane may be used as a solvent in the preparation of tetraethynyl silane from tetrakis((trimethylsilyl)ethynyl)silane.
