Glacial acetic acid is an excellent polar protic solvent, as noted above.
It is frequently used as a solvent for recrystallization to purify organic compounds.
Acetic acid is used as a solvent in the production of terephthalic acid (TPA), the raw material for polyethylene terephthalate (PET).
Sodium Metabisulphite or sodium pyrosulphate) is an inorganic compound of chemical formula Na2S2O5.
The substance is sometimes referred to as disodium metabisulfite.
It is used as a disinfectant, antioxidant, and preservative agent.
Widely used as a pH regulator/ buffering agent in multiple industrial processes
Calcium hydroxide (Hydrated lime) is traditionally called slaked lime, is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula Ca(OH)2.
It is a colourless crystal or white powder and is obtained when calcium oxide (lime or quicklime) is mixed, or ‘slaked’ with water.
Calcium hydroxide is used in many applications, including food preparation.
One significant application of calcium hydroxide is as a flocculant, in water and sewage treatment.
It is also used in fresh water treatment for raising the pH of the water so pipes will not corrode where the base water is acidic; hydrated lime is self-regulating and does not raise the pH too much.
Hydrated lime has many other applications:
As an ingredient in whitewash, mortar, and plaster In road construction, to improve the quality of excessively plastic subgrade soils.
As a long-lasting fungicide In the petroleum refining industry for the manufacture of additives to oils.
In the chemical industry for manufacture of calcium stearate.
For preparation of dry mixes for painting and decorating.
In manufacturing mixes for pesticides, and as a natural insecticide.
Oxalic acid has many roles as a bleach, metal polish, stain remover, and mordant.
It is used as a Bleaching agent for Straw hats, Leather, and Wood.
Oxalic acid acts as a reducing agent for metal oxides to remove tarnish as well as rust or ink stains.
Boric acid, also called hydrogen borate, boracic acid, and orthoboric acid is a weak, monobasic Lewis acid of boron.
However, some of its behaviour towards some chemical reactions suggest it to be tribasic acid in Bronsted sense as well.
Boric acid is often used as an antiseptic, insecticide, flame retardant, neutron absorber, or precursor to other chemical compounds.
It has the chemical formulaH3BO3 (sometimes written B(OH)3), and exists in the form of colorless crystals or a white powder that dissolves in water
